What is “Transitioning Youth”?
Eligible students with developmental disabilities are entitled to remain in school until the year of their 21st birthday. Transition refers to the years of planning and related activity, beginning at age 14, which occurs in preparation for the time the student will leave school for the adult world.
Based on the availability of funding, the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) provides Transitioning Youth funding for eligible students which can be used for supported employment and other day services.
This Transitioning Youth Handbook is designed to provide you with resources that you can use to help your family member make a successful transition to the adult world.
