The Service Coordination Impact Fund

Every day in Maryland, there are thousands of adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are waiting for resources and services through the state. With state budget cuts in 2009, the need for funding to support individuals within our communities has dramatically increased. Many individuals and their families struggle to make ends meet and to cover even the most basic living expenses such as housing and utilities, and transportation.

To address this critical gap in funding, Service Coordination, Inc. has established The Service Coordination Impact Fund (The SC Impact Fund.) The SC Impact Fund provides small amounts of monies through individual grants to help families with unexpected medical costs, sudden job loss, transportation needs and other products or services that would vastly improve the quality of life for an individual with a disability living in the State of Maryland.

Service Coordination is the largest organization in the state working with individuals waiting for services to help provide crucial connections to goods and services or other needed resources.

The SC Impact Fund provides grants to individuals of up to $1,000 per request. Examples of how the grants may be used include:

Unfunded Medical Needs (medication costs, dental treatment)* Adaptive Equipment (wheelchairs, lifts) and Home Accessibility Modifications* Communication Devices and Computer Software (voice recognition software, keyboard control pedals)* Speech and Language Therapies* Caregiver Respite Services* After School Care

The SC Impact Fund is being started with a challenge grant of $115,000 from the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, one of the largest private foundations in the United States. As a challenge grant, we must raise matching funds to be able to benefit from the Weinberg Foundation grant; for every dollar raised, the foundation will match donations dollar for dollar (up to $115,000.)  Our fundraising goal for this fiscal year is $250,000.

There are a number of ways that you can help us reach this goal;
